Property Description
We are told it is a beautiful house -
“wonderful garden, very solid barn with potential, lovely house with scope to expand into the loft and with a lovely character and in a very restful spot next to fields. It had charm in abundance and was clearly kept to an outstanding standard of
decor and repair by the both of you. You can be proud to own it.”
A light and airy, well presented stone-built Maison de Maitre (built 1870) with double aspect which sits on the edge of a village just into the Vienne from its border with the Deux Sevres. It is just 3 kilometres from the lively small town of Thenezay (in the Deux Sevres) for shops, restaurants and a supermarket as well as doctors, dentist and pharmacy and many other facilities. There is a school bus leaves the village each day and for older children there is a bus from Thenezay. In the Vienne we have the pretty and historic town of Vouille with its excellent Saturday market and Sunday lunch! Situated halfway between the university town of Poitiers and the historic town of Parthenay. Poitiers is the home of the very popular attraction of Futurescope. Airports at Poitiers, Tours and La Rochelle. Poitiers airport just 20 minutes. High speed TGV between Paris, Tours, Poitiers and Bordeaux.
Plenty to see and do:
Futurescope 20 minutes
Chateaux of the Loire valley plus or minus 1 hour
Ancient city of Tours 1 hour
Puy de Fou (wonderful entertainment for all ages, 3rd most popular entertainment park in the world according to Tripadvisor) 100 minutes
Atlantic coast including the extremely popular La Rochelle 90 minutes.
A good area for all sports including golf, fishing, boating, walking and cycling.
A very quiet location for this impressive house which has retained many of its original features. Needs to be viewed in person to be fully appreciated.
Ground floor:
On the ground floor we have a large dining room with adjacent kitchen fitted to a very high standard, including granite work tops.
There is a TV room opening out to a large extension giving an exceptionally comfortable, double aspect sitting room with a Jotul wood burner for winter and French doors leading to the garden for the summer.
Also on this floor is a large family bathroom and separate toilet.
First floor:
The first floor has hardwood flooring throughout with four large double bedrooms, each with original marble fireplaces. There is also a tiled shower room with WC and wash basin.
Second floor:
The staircase leads on up to the spacious attic which could easily be converted to bedrooms or games room if anyone should wish.
Basement:
Down a staircase from the ground floor is a very useful basement covering most of the area of the house with outer door and stone steps leading to the garden.
Outside:
It has a walled garden of approx 3400m2 with large outbuildings. The barn is big enough to make further accommodation should this be required. Other outbuildings and preau with bbq make for very pleasant summer living. This much loved garden is planted with flowers, shrubs, roses and plenty of fruit trees.
There is oil-fired central heating throughout the house. The house roof was professionally reslated in 2007. All windows are pvc and double glazed.
