Property Description

The Mas des Cistes forms part of a small hamlet named the Mas de Sellier, only 1.5 km from the village of Saint André d’Olérargues. Built in the early 18th century, the quietly isolated hamlet sits on a rocky outcropping of the foothills that overlook the beautiful Cèze river valley to the East and the Cévennes and Ardéche hills to the North.

The Mas is in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône Villages area, close to many wine cooperatives. Famous vineyards, such as Tavel, Lirac, Laudun, Château de Beaucastel, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape are all within 40 km. The beautiful market town of Uzès is 20 km to the southwest, and Goudargues, the “Little Venice on the Gard” is only 9 km to the northeast.

The Mas was restored as a holiday rental in 2011, equipped with efficient electric baseboard heaters, and was tastefully appointed with period furniture.

The main floor has a kitchen, spacious living / dining area (with fireplace and large bay windows), a large bedroom and a washroom with walk-in shower.

The upper floor has a large bedroom, a washroom with bath and walk-in shower, and a smaller room that can easily fit a bunk bed and another single bed – ideal for children. There is also a 30 m2 terrace, with a stunning view of the Cèze valley, which is ideal for sunbathing, breezy evenings accompanied by a glass of cool rosé wine from the local vineyards, and to contemplate the spectacular sunsets and clear, star-filled night sky.

The total interior surface area is approximately 140 m2. A spectacular view can be enjoyed through the large bay windows in the living / dining area, and from the stone terrace on the upper floor.

Much of the house has exposed beams and stone walls, which have remained essentially unchanged for 300 years. The vaulted cellars are fully intact, a testament to the past, and can be used for storage, easy conversion to a wine cellar or renovation to additional living space. The stone architecture keeps the house cool in summer, and warm in winter.

The 50 m2 private, intimate, stone-walled courtyard has an attractive garden and patio area, ideal for outdoor dining. It can be easily converted into a protected parking space.

The property has easy access to hiking trails, vineyards and orchards. An excellent restaurant is a 15 minute walk away in the village of Saint André d'Olérargues.

Nearby attractions include:
- Goudargues (9 km), the 'Little Venice on the Gard', a lovely village with all shops and amenities, excellent restaurants, cafés and bars, medical facilities, banks, shops, and a supermarket.
- La Roque sur Cèze (9 km), spectacular river bathing spot
- Bagnols-sur-Ceze (14 km), for supermarkets, museums, and city life.
- Uzès (22 km), medieval city famous for its Saturday market
- Gorges de l’Ardèche (20 km), spectacular canyon.
- Cave de Chauvet (40 km), famous for its 10,000 year old cave paintings
- Pont du Gard (35 km), famous Roman aqueducts
- Avignon (50 km), city of festivals
- Parc naturel régional de Camargue - 80 km
