Property Description
Situated in a quiet spot near the centre of a village with basic shops for everyday needs and only 15 minutes’ drive from wonderful Uzès, this renovated mid-19th Century village house with 2 bedrooms has a raised terrace with uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. It is just 45 minutes from the international airport of Nîmes.
Near the centre of a village with basic amenities and with direct access to the countryside, this house is ideally suited for nature lovers. Access to the house is through a tiny courtyard with its magnificent oleander, leading on to a pleasant terrace. This is the main terrace of three and gives access to the living room, the kitchen and one bedroom. A second bedroom and shower room are also on the same floor. Above the living room, the large mezzanine floor is ideal as an occasional sleeping area for guests. It leads to a large, sunny terrace with great views.
The property is only 15 minutes from Uzès, an amazingly beautiful small Provençal town, set on a limestone plateau amid the scented garrigues, the herb-covered scrubland countryside along the foot of the ancient Massif Central. Uzès is one of the loveliest villages in the Languedoc. It is the home of the lords of Uzès, the first duchy of France, whose members can trace their ancestry back to Charlemagne and who still reside in the ducal palace of Le Duché. The poet and dramatist Jean Racine lived in Uzès and he has since been followed by numerous French luminaries who have discovered the pleasures of having a second home in Uzès and the surrounding region.
In 2008, Uzès was officially designated a ville d'art et d'histoire (a town of art and history), both of which are apparent when wandering through the medieval streets. Artists and craftspeople have set up their workshops and studios throughout the town, where they work with ceramics, stone, wrought iron, and painted furniture. It all adds up to create a very pleasant and quietly affluent atmosphere.
