The village of Villefranche-du-Périgord is situated in the SW of France.  It is a traditional Bastide town, built of honey coloured stone, sitting in the prettiest of Perigordian countryside, surrounded by rivers, woodland, fields and hills.  It is tranquil and unspoiled, and doesn’t attract too many tourists so manages to retain its serenity.  It may be small but has some useful shops, including a butcher, bakery, and a small general supermarket.  A weekly market is held on Saturdays. 

Our photographs to a large extent, speak for themselves.  Many of the original features have been retained, including beams, exposed stone walls, a character fireplace (with wood-burning stove), and bread oven.  In the grounds there is a stone barn which has loads of storage, workspace and  stabling.  As well as the 2-bedroom furnished guest house, there is a charming gipsy caravan in the grounds.  This has been converted into one bedroom accommodation, shower room and separate dining/kitchen. There is even a jacuzzi for extra relaxation!

The climate is usually excellent in the Dordogne and so there is plenty of sunshine to both enjoy the swimming pool and to tempt visitors out and about.  Monpazier is certainly worth a short drive , as is the wine town of Bergerac and the celebrated beauty of Sarlat la Canéda.  The region is famed for its food, for truffles, walnuts, mushrooms and duck dishes.

The Dordogne property market has been pretty hot for some years now, with many Europeans looking to put down roots in this most desirable of departments.  Prices in popular towns can be high but as we have already indicated, Villefranche-du-Périgord has so far remained undiscovered and you can still find a luxury property at a bargain price.
